From his position on the floor, Leo groaned as his eyes fluttering open to look about himself. This definitely wasn’t where he’d passed out, and the pain told him he wasn’t having a dream of some kind; where was he? The beastman rubbed the back of his head as he slowly got to his feet, taking in his surroundings. From the looks of this place, it seemed to have been only recently abandoned. But there were definitely no houses of any kind anywhere near the place he’d been exploring; how could he be here? Was this some sort of trick? Most importantly of all, why was a little girl in here all alone?
Ignoring his own dizziness and disorientation, Leo walked up to her, concern etched on his face and seeping into his voice. "Are you alright, little one?"
Nina blinked, turning and staring at the kitty-man. She hadn't even seen a person who was also a cat. And he had a horn too. Was he a goat-cat-man? That didn't make any sense. Was he made with alchemy or was he something else? Either way, Bigger Brother didn't like it when people stared at him, and she doubted kitty-man would like it either. And he was being nice to her, so she should be nice back.
Maybe he could help her find daddy and Alexander, only she didn't imagine he'd like Alexander, since he was a cat.
She smiled, bouncing on her toes. "Hi, mister! I'm ok. Are you ok? Did you fall? Do you know where we are? I can't find my daddy."
Leo knelt before the little girl, the better to look her in the face. She didn't seem hurt, or frightened; that was a relief. "I'm alright," he assured her, blinking a bit at the barrage of questions. "I merely fell, but I'm unhurt. Are you alright?" He glanced around the room again and, seeing nothing he recognized, sighed and shook his head. "I'm afraid I don't know, child," he told her, "but fear not. I will keep you safe."
He couldn't just leave an innocent child all on her own like this, especially not when he didn't even know where they were.
"I'm ok! I'm lost, but daddy says when you're lost you should stay in one place so you can be found. Cause rushing around all over the place just gets you more lost. Are you lost too?" She beamed at him, more curious now than she had been before. "Keep me safe from what, Mister?"
"A sound idea," Leo rumbled, moving to the door and trying it. It was, of course, locked. "Stay back," he warned Nina, backing up a bit and ramming the door with his shoulder. Despite his strength, the door didn't so much as flake or budge, and the only thing it accomplished was a slightly bruised shoulder, causing the beastman to growl in frustration. They weren't getting out that way - perhaps there was a magical barrier; though if one existed, Leo didn't see any signs of one.
"I will keep you safe from anything in this place that seeks to do you harm," he replied at last, turning back to look at her. "My name is Leo. What is your name?"
