The world went funny in her head, just long enough that she took her hand off Alexander’s collar and leaned better into daddy.
And then daddy was gone too, and Nina was staggering sideways, alone in a dusty room at dawn. But hadn’t it just been nighttime? She thought it had, she and Alexander had been going to help daddy. And now she was in a big house, and it was dusty.
Maybe these people didn’t have a mommy either? Only they must not have a daddy, because Daddy kept the house very clean and wouldn’t let it get this dusty ever.
Nina sneezed, looking around. “Daddy? Alexander? Did I get lost?” She hadn’t gone anywhere to get lost, had she? “Did you get lost, Daddy? Hello? Is anyone here? I’m not supposed to go in strangers’ houses, but I didn’t mean to come here. So I hope you’re not mad.”
She peered at the dead flowers, they must not have liked those very much. Flowers needed water to stay pretty. Daddy would have never let dead flowers stay around for this long.
“Ed-ward? Alphonse? Daddy? Alexanderrrr? Are you here? Hello? Is anybody here? It's very dirty, did you forget to clean?”
