Having good work helps bring stability, but it sounds as if you're not even "at home" when you are at home. I can attest to not living in some of my situations correlating to not having the happiest feelings when left to simmer finally reach the surface as angst.
Even though each heartbreak isn't exactly the same you can at least say it's part of the human condition, the part that they don't list in medical books. I've had times that I felt like I'd drop everything for someone else too, but fortunately that also can erodes with time.
Even though we try to base our thoughts and judgements on what we believe as fact, unfortunately skewed perception can easily mislead us. Things can seem better or worse than they actually are, but what matters is how we feel. Sometimes reality is truly arbitrary.
