Fangirl talk

No, this is not anime talk.

It's literature talk.

Because I found myself thinking how awesome it was the interactions among brazilian writers in the 19th Century.

For example...

Castro Alves was a young man that wrote some poems and decided to show them to a famous writer (and politician), to get a critic from an expert. Who?

José de Alencar. (awesome ( Read more... )

Er, sorry about my absence. I've lost track of many things, including time and messages.

Anyway, I'm not very good at literature or familiar with our writers (shame on me, I know), but I was also amused by the interactions between them when I heard about them in class. ^^ Especially when Machado de Assis was involved, 'cause he's indeed awesome in many ways. XD Some Portuguese writers are also very interesting, personally.

However, I don't really like learning much about my favourite writers' lives and personalities. When their life stories turn out to be too sad, or when I find their personalities are less than pleasant, it sort of detracts the fun/beauty from their stories. I know it shouldn't matter, but it happens. It's one of the reasons why I'll never buy any books by Anne Rice, for example. :P

So, how's the fic going? ^^

No problem!

Almost everything I know it's from my classes. So I don't know a lot about them, but I always find those little stories very interesting X3
Machado de Assis is so awesome. He is a great writer and also a great person! His life is really interesting, I admire him a lot ♥

Their lives and personalities don't affect too much my reading, but at some point they do (eeeh... confusing. I don't know how to explain OTL). I understand what you mean!
This reminds me of Álvares de Azevedo... he died so young (only 21) ;___; Also, the legends about him are quite funny (and creepy), but unlikely to be true XD I admire him a lot for writing so much , considering I'm about the same age as him E eu nunca escrevi um "Noite na Taverna" na minha vida OTL. Or Castro Alves, whose brother commited suicide and he was the one who found the corpse ;___ ( ... )

I also admire Machado de Assis very much. I wish more people abroad knew about him. To me, he is THE icon of Brazilian literature, and he deserves more recognition.

What are those legends about Álvares de Azevedo? XD I don't remember hearing any in class. Now I'm curious!

Huhu, that Brazil fic is promising to be so epic! XD (And the Iberic Union, yeah!)

Forgot to reply about the writers' sad lives:

Well, it is said that in order to be a great writer (or artist in general), one must have had a sad childhood and/or live in misery. XD

I now have to wonder if those writers became great writers because of that, or if we have this belief based on those writers' lives. (It's like wondering which came first: "the egg or the chicken?" XD)
