I meant, so MUCH, to email you this week to say, "Y'know, it's really weird that we haven't heard anything about ALL SEVEN SURVIVING ACTORS getting together for this CiN special -- it's one thing to try to keep a surprise going, but it's just WEIRD that we've heard NOTH-ING since the initial early-fall rumor, particularly since Doctor Who Magazine usually reports the jist of these sorts of developments. And also, all I've heard since has been news of the first few minutes of the Christmas special being aired, and also MAYBE something about the Torchwood set being involved sometime soon, since apparently Torchwood Magazine made mention of that. But ... I have a Bad Feeling about the Seven Doctors Special."

But I ran out of time to mail you, and now it's too late. And I seriously feel bad, because, while I was disappointed, I was at least HALF suspecting to hear this development. Apologies, mate.

Was it just the first few minutes of the Christmas special? Or is it actually something new?

Yeah, I had long since started to suspect that something was amiss. I at first figured any potential information was overshadowed by other things, and I ran across a thing from a couple of months ago about how all of the rumours about Paul McGann being involved in 2009 were untrue...which suggested to me that someone must have seen _something_ that made them think McGann was physically stepping back into the role* and kind of allayed some of my suspicions ( ... )

I'm currently in negotiations with the Vortex about "Music of the Spheres," so hopefully I'll have some good news about that soon. Did you maybe get a notification about Dr. Horrible last night? Maybe perhaps I'm hoping against hope ( ... )

I know! I wonder what exactly is the deal here with the...pacing? timing? of the last few serials of Five's--they give you two sad goodbyes and a dark, _creepy_ one RIGHT before saying goodbye to the Doctor himself! I mean, normally I have a feeling of not wanting to see the current Doctor go mixed with at least some curiosity about the new one, but this...? This made the whole affair so _downbeat_ and gloomy. I mean, it shouldn't be dancing around in our underwear when a main character "dies", true. BUT...well you know what I mean ( ... )

At least he's got someone to (sort of) take care of him (as best as she can, considering...) through this one, though. I don't care _how_ interesting and awesome and distracting "The War Games" is, it is almost certainly going to remain the most depressing regeneration of the original series, as far as I'm concerned...but whatever. It's a suck situation anyway you slice it from this side of a regeneration. But the getting to the other side is what makes the show so unique and fanTAStic, so I'll take the bad with the good ( ... )

Yeah. I just meant, Adric is up there with Nyssa and whatnot among the ones in your list that _don't_ count. For the relative thing, I mean. :P ( ... )

Well, they "don't count" because they _did_ have relatives appear on the show after their first serial, but in "doesn't count" sort of ways: Susan's grandfather being on the show several times is obviously is not the same as Tegan's grandfather showing up later in the series, Nyssa's father _technically_ "appears," but _it ain't actually him_, and Sarah Jane's family appears in spin-off material after she has returned to her home time/place permanently ( ... )

I never gave the seven doctors thing credence, and if I thought you had really bought into it, I would have said something! I mean, BBC officially said a while ago that it was the first 2 minutes of "The Next Doctor"... and it was pretty cute - I caught it on YouTube a couple hours after the fact. It wasn't anything amazing, but it's something to whet the appetite, if it were. I'm a little nervous about this Rosita character though... recycling names much ( ... )

Seriously, if I had had the time or energy to stop and think about it, I would have known. But I've been off in my own little bubble of hating the flatmates and hating my classes and hating the idea of Five's impending death and hating pretty much everything about my life except those few moments where I get to watch or write about a bit of Who. So, I didn't see the official announcement about the preview until this evening when I was running about trying to figure out what had or had not happened ( ... )

Ahem. I know this isn't for me, but: As for recycling names, I'd like to point out here that technically two Companions with the same last name, who were not related...traveled with THE SAME DOCTOR!

Seriously: Barbara Wright and Polly Wright, both travelled with One.

Still, I dunno about naming a character "Rosita" on the new series _this soon_, when Rose keeps coming back anyway AND has evidently turned into a massive Mary Sue...
No, I _am_ sure: No. Just no.

A Hispanic Companion I'd be down in general with since we haven't had one yet, but...different name, maybe? It could still be common...maybe Maria? Jaunita? I dunno.

...Notorious

I'm okay with the "Rosita" thing (not that I know who this character is yet; I haven't seen the two minutes yet) simply because recycling names is what Davies DOES, and not even just in "Who." He was using the name "Rose" long before Rose Tyler (I think the series I'm thinking of was called "Bob and Rose," maybe? ...) -- and I KNOW there's other examples I can't think of at the moment. I might be inclined to agree that, like it or not, the choice of "Rosita" was meant to turn the knife a little harder into the Doctor in reminding him that Rose is pretty much permanently gone from his life now ... except that reusing names is just what Davies DOES. I don't think it'll have much, if anything, to do with Rose-referencing ( ... )
