I just finished 'The Woodsman' a Kevin Bacon film with Kyra Sedgwick, it's about a pedophile who's released from prison after 12 years, and is trying to get his life back together..I was surprised that Loren didn't bring it home before I saw it in the store, it's just up his alley..dark human gritty drama? I watched it too, and I thought it was a great movie exactly because of the things you described. Especially the brilliant performance by Bacon. The movie's intention, I think, was yes, trying to make the Bacon character human, and the movie's greatness is that the audience sympathizes with him, or starts to, then catches themselves, confused, when we realize just what kind of a fucker he is. It would have been easy to just go one way or the other in extremes in this type of film, but because Bacon keeps his character pitiful yet despicable at the same time, it makes for an even greater film.

it's a interesting movie, and I do have to admitt that they did a good job of making him human..it's a thought provoking movie to say the least
