Despite being labelled 'fussy', 'complicated' and 'a pain in the arse', I have for a while now carried around a little bit of paper, scribbled with the numbers of all the food additives that are derived from animal products. It's an essential tool for any vegetarian/vegan braving the supermarket aisles.

much easier than my handwritten list that falls apart every few months. I had just been writing it out all over again each time. Man, I am really slow sometimes!

Oh wow, thank you for this. Some I knew and others like rennet I avoid, but it's good to know all those numbers. And really, looking at how many additives are in food, it makes me even more determined to go back to whole food cooking and DIY.

Oh absolutely. I have been 'attempting' to cook for myself a little more recently. I'm still quite horrid, and for the times when all is lost, there's always Subway. :P

I always have that list on me, but it's still frustrating when you get the additives which could be either animal or plant derived, and you have to ring up the help line for the company and ask. Coles have recently started labelling their products for vegetarians (espeically the bakery stuffs) which I am so happy about! I don't buy alot of home brand products, but it's a start.
