day 19 - this is the worthwhile fight

Dec 19, 2013 10:08

Emma/tosca1390 asked me to talk about my Hawke/Sienna otp feelings today, so here we are. Again, we're using Taylor Swift lyrics, because State of Grace is nothing if not a song about them. I actually had to fight to choose which lyrics to use for the title and cut because so many work. THEY JUST DO.

So let's go beneath the cut.

But this love is brave and wild )

YELLS AT YOU

WAILS ABOUT THIS

Like you just know Hawke's wolf was running around making sonnets about Sienna's red hair. YOU KNOW IT TO BE TRUE. So it's completely the emotionally scarred man that is blocking the bond and not the wolf. The wolf always knew.

THE WOLF ALWAYS KNEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW. THE WOLF SAW HER ALWAYS AND HAD TO WAIT FOR THE MAN TO CATCH UP.

I have no real concrete feelings except sheer joy and glee for this entire post. I love them. I love how you love and understand them. I love how you love Sienna. I want you to talk about them and write about them always and forever. Your headcanon for post book ten is so perfect. I JUST WANT IT ALL.

I want them being silly over business reports and get caught having sex in the training rooms.

ALL I WANT. ALL I WANT IN THE WORLD. THEY'D BE SO BAD AT COVERING THEIR TRACKS BECAUSE THEY'D BE SO HAPPY TO BE TOGETHER.

MOTHERFUCKING FEELINGS.

It was a good topic! Thank you for asking. Hah, I could have probably gone on way longer and gotten more ridiculous but I was like no, I should stop.

THE TRUTH THOUGH. He would be ridiculous about it and she would be so pleased. And Indigo is like I don't want to hear it. Riley is traumatized he keeps walking in on them or around them.

I have so many things that I want to write for them. Hopefully I get to them lol. And they're good.

My radar immediately went off when Sienna point blank gets away with telling Hawke he's being a bigot and an idiot basically.

Hahaha, me too! In terms of book chronology, Hawke/Sienna is definitely the first one I had shippy feelings for.

I don't have many thoughts on Hawke/Sienna, but A+ yes to everything you say here. Do agree, especially w/r/t to the trauma in their pasts. As frustrating (or hilarious, I suppose) as Hawke's denial books 8-10 were, it always made sense. And I love it when you can feel arguments on both sides.

I'm also pretty fond of their mutual aggression ngl, that they're both fighters. And it serves as the most wonderful reversal because she's afraid that she might kill him during sex.

They suck you in at the start!!! Or at the very least like you're all hmmmm, what's going on here.

And it serves as the most wonderful reversal because she's afraid that she might kill him during sex.

I have a post book ten fic in the works and one of my favorite written lines is how she knows the temperature it would take to melt his bones. WHICH SOUNDS REALLY TERRIBLE BUT IT'S NOT.

LMAO, that's going to be amazing.

It's the context, really. After Judd being afraid he'll kill Brenna during sex, after Ekaterina being afraid Dev will kill her, it's nice to have some balance. And tbh I find Hawke/Sienna working out their power dynamics REALLY INTERESTING.

I started re-reading Kiss of Snow (again) and it's making Hawke's behavior make even more sense to me, like I can see even more the way he can't really help himself when it comes to her, he can't stop coming to her even though he thinks it's all wrong. (All thanks the wolf, I'm sure!!!!)

It's been a head canon of mine that at some point following book ten/eleven that Sienna's brain shuts down and snaps back into Silent mode because of the huge fear she has of losing everything she's been given the opportunity to have.

YES. I think that had to have happened. I mean, that's a pretty normal fear in general and given everything about her specifically, YEP.

Yes! It was the re-read that really clued me in. And I think also it's because Hawke's POV is reserved? Like he is restrained in a way and doesn't reveal all that much about himself.

Yay! I'm agreed you can see that happening too.

I think for me it was a case of I 'd become so attached to Sienna's pov and her headspace? And so I was really feeling her frustration?

And I agree I am not really sure how it could have gone another way, because to him he sees someone who is young and he's fucked up, and you can't disagree with that. Even if Sienna has never seemed a child, by his standards and culture and customs she is. And he wants more for her and for her to have the best.

Now, lol, that she basically tells him to go fuck off and dances on a bar makes it all the better for me!!

I liked reading this because I had a lot of problems with the way Hawke acted their book and it was just ENDLESSLY FRUSTRATING but I guess you're right about not having to like how either one of them acted. They acted like idiots. They had their reasons, and you're right it's entirely different to understand why they're doing it and being okay with them doing it. So yeah.

Ah yay I'm glad!

I mean I had problems and was annoyed, but I guess after re-reading and thinking it makes sense? NOT THAT IT'S NOT FRUSTRATING A LOT. but yeah. it's a weird thing, and something I think they'll work on as they go on.
