Also, an excellent family hike, one I completely love and would love to do is Dewey Lakes up at Chinook Pass (highway 410). It is at the crest of west and east of the Cascades. Holy hell it is a beautiful place. One side is lush typical Pac NW forest and plant life, the other side is literally dry eastern stuff (larches, pines). A fantastic drive, hike and view.

Seems like you have everything pretty much covered. Ocean Shores is free to roam on the beach. The Evergreen State College has a nice forest to explore. Lakefaire is free to roam around. Captiol Park in downtown Olympia has fountains to play in and you can walk around the lake. I particulary liked Alder Lake when we visited it in October.
It's not free, but I am looking forward to going to the EMP to see the Jim Henson Exhibit. A family membership is $75 for two adults and all the children under 18, a pretty sweet deal I think.
A great list of places and events! I'll have to check some of them out!

And the Seattle Pass (linked from the EMP page) is an awesome deal as well; for $55, you get a nine-day pass to see six Seattle attractions (13 and over, less for younger), Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum OR the Museum of Flight, the Seattle Aquarium, Argosy Cruises Seattle Harbor Tour, Seattle Space Needle, Pacific Science Center and Woodland Park Zoo.
