[ have some - overly fancy, for nowadays' standards - Victorian handwriting. ]

You know, I am truly still wondering about this after all this time.. and perhaps anyone in this place can give me a new perspective on the matter, to put it that way. I have never been given a clear answer before, although I shouldn't have expected as much from that ( Read more... )

[The writing in return is light, fulls of loops.]

Is that a riddle?

It is. Someone proposed it to me a rather long time ago by now.

[ Otoya has a bit of trouble deciphering the handwriting but he tries his best to understand, especially the last sentence. Have a reply in red ink. ]

i don't know why a raven is like a writing desk, sorry ^^;;

[ there's some trouble on this side too, if not just because there's no way she can decipher that code at the end of the sentence - what are emotes in Victorian times. ]

Perhaps you could instead explain that secret code you used there to me. It's rather curious.

secret code? oh, you mean the emote? it's a smiley embarrassed face, i suppose.

Smiley.. embarassed face..?

[ ... interesting. ]

So you are writing out the kind of faces you make using the code?

[Before he pens a reply), Minato spends quite some time staring at the riddle and thinking. He knows he's read it before (when he was doing research on what, exactly, his personas were, there was a need to research Alice, after all - not this particular Alice, exactly, but the same source material, at least), but he's not sure if there's an answer or not. He thinks there must be, and when he can't pull one from his memory, he ponders answer of his own he might supply.]

Could it be that unmusical notes can be produced with both?

[ For the record, Minato also happens to be in the Gryffindor common room, having taken over part of a table where he has been studying spells and practicing a few of the simplest. Not that he realizes the one to whom he is writing is also in the common room at the moment, of course. He's just alternating between making text books float, summoning small rocks (because they seem less problematic to practice 'accio' on) and checking the commuter. ]

There are many things both of them can do, right? Why, you might as well say a raven is like a writing desk because they both could fly if a writing desk would grow wings.

[ yes, the answer isn't entirely sensical - but that's alice for you. she's too busy staring at the paper though to notice he's in the same room as her; there are plenty of people around either way to obscure the fact. ]

[Minato blinks at her reply, not quite sure what to make of it.]

I suppose that's true. Was there a specific answer you were looking for, then?

[They will spend forever ignorant of the fact, then.]

[ maybe they will discover.. eventually.. ]

Not necessarily. I was just wondering what kind of answers people would give, considering that man never gave me one. Even though he was the one who asked to start with.

[A very elegant reply appears as the Unicorn uses her own quill feature.]

I do not know the answer myself, but I believe Schmendrick did. He asked a man that same riddle once, but the man didn't know the answer either.

Schmendrick?

[ she copies the name down, but doesn't recognize it - if they knew the riddle too, maybe they were the Hatter, but.. no, he didn't have a name like that, did he? ]

Well, it is a rather complicated riddle after all. But I refuse that there's no answer to it, even though the Hatter himself said he didn't know the answer, even if he was the one who asked the riddle to start with.

A riddle without an answer is pointless, is it not? Just like how everyone expects an answer to a question. Then again, he never made much sense to start with.

[ She's.. almost a little surprised to find someone approaching her, even going as far as smiling at her like that - she hasn't seen many smiles in a long time, not counting deranged grins. ]

Me? [ It's almost a little surprised, disoriented as she's caught off guard. ] Well, I was just.. watching.

Watching what?

People. Things. [ she idly answers as she brushes back some of her long hair. ] Whatever passes by, really. It's interesting enough, considering I've never seen a place quite like this before.
