To Wendy, nothing said "Welcome back to Hogwarts" like sneaking through the castle halls in the dead of night. She let out a muffled a curse as a book almost went tumbling from the heavy load in her arms - even though she caught it before she hit the floor, she saw someone in the corner of her eyes whip around at the motion. The nymphs being chased in the tapestry giggled at her clumsiness, and she gave them the finger before she turned back to the mystery person ( ... )

Remus nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard something thud down beside him. Whipping around he saw Wendy Tang with a precarious load of books in her arms ( ... )

Wendy couldn't help grinning at the look on Remus' face - as if he he wished the flagstones would open up and just swallow him whole. He was just so endearingly awkward, especially the first time he asked her out, when he stuttered so much that she mistakenly thought he was asking her about the score for the latest Holyhead Harpies game.

"I'd help you carry them but uh, I'm, uh, waiting for someone. To do, not illegal things with," Remus managed to stammer, as he helped her with her books. She was such a sucker for the nice guys, especially ones who treated books with as much love and respect as Remus did. Wendy had to squash the urge to tease him mercilessly about the "not illegal things with" part of his last sentence; making a comment about Black right now would probably send Remus to pieces. The poor boy looked even more jittery than usual, which was saying a lot for him ( ... )

"Everythings fine! Yes! Lovely." He cursed himself inwardly. Lovely? Smooth Remus. Sirius would be so proud...

oh God, don't think about Sirius right now...

"Why wouldn't it be?"

Did my voice just squeak? I am so hopeless.

"Well, I, uh, wouldn't want to keep you from your... Books. Wonderful things really, books. I quite like them." He mananged not to glance around wildly. If only James would show up and save him from his own awkwardness...

Sirius strolled into the corridor only to see Remus talking to Wendy Chang. It reminded him a bit of a Muggle programme he once saw of a lion hunting gazelles.

"Oi! Tang! I think you're frightening Remus, " he said, chuckling.

James slipped around a corner, grinning. It faltered only slightly when he saw Wendy with Remus. She wasn't part of the plan. His step almost slowed, but he quickly reasserted himself and made for Remus' side.

"Ahoy, Miss Tang," he said, eyeballing her books. "Fancy meeting you here. Out for a stroll?"

Peter was the last to arrive, scurrying around the opposite corner, filled with a familiar nervous energy that could only ever mean he was up to something covert, suspect and/or illegal.

Oh though, hang on, he thought, making out the unfamiliar female shape in the darkness, That's not a Marauder. Pete ground to a halt.

"Wot's she doing here?" he asked, peering suspiciously at Tang.

"I was just wondering the same thing," said Sirius, raising an eyebrow. "Eclair, Pete? Freshly baked from the kitchens!" He pulled the bag he'd been carrying off his back and unzipped it to reveal the bounty.

James got up onto his hands and knees and looked around. He'd never seen this part of the forest before. The stream that trickled by, more of a river actually, was silver and sparkly in the moonlight. He struggled to his feet and began pulling off his shirt and unbuckling his trousers. He grinned at Sirius and Remus.

"Well, we can't go back to the castle dripping mud, can we? Filch would follow the tracks back to the Gryffindor tower," he said, pulling off his boxers as well before splashing into the water. It was freezing cold, but after the stuffiness of the tunnel it was refreshing. He dove in, completely submerging himself. When he resurfaced he laughed. "The water's bloody freezing, but it's spectacular."

Sirius already had his shirt off by the time James hit the water. It took him less than a minute to strip down to his skin. He threw a wild look over his shoulder at Remus and Peter and when diving after James into the icy water.

Remus watched James and Sirius strip off and dive into the stream. It had to be freezing cold, they were crazy! Sirus' skin was all goosepimples...

Oh God oh God oh God

There was no was Remus was getting in that water. He never removed his clothing if he could help it. Of course, he knew the Marauders had already seen his scars. But it was one thing to be half conscious after the moon and quite another to reveal them voluntarily...

"You're both daft! When you're hypothermic I won't save you!"

Sirius popped up at Remus' shout, only letting his eyes and the top of his head break the surface of the water. He began swimming, like a hungry crocodile, toward the spot on the bank where Remus stood. A smile slithered onto his still submerged mouth. Shooting out of the water, he grabbed Remus around the knees, dragging him down, fully clothed, into the river.
