Searching For The Lost Child

The light from the moon shone through the window as Fred looked toward the ceiling. She was tired, and knew she needed sleep but her mind wouldn't stop racing. The last few days had become blur and Fred wanted it to be nothing more than a bad dream.

Connor was gone. Holtz had taken the baby from his bassinet and there wasn't anything they could do to stop him. He had planned it out and had made sure Angel was gone at the moment. Fred, Gunn, Wesley and Lorne were no match for Holtz and his men, and by the time Angel returned, it was too late.

They followed Holtz though and found him in the industrial district of the city. Lilah Morgan was there, begging Holtz to give Wolfram and Hart the child, while Angel begged Holtz not to. In the end, a portal opened up and Holtz and Connor were gone.

It almost seemed like Angel was going to fall apart on all of them. He took down Connor's crib, almost knowing the child would never come home. Fred, on the other hand, knew there had to be a way to get the boy back. Wesley and her started to research every book they could find but always hit a brick wall.

She wanted to do more but Wesley had made her promise to get some sleep, especially when he noticed how pale and tired she was. Fred didn't think she could sleep but she forced her eyes shut and hoped morning would come soon.

"Did you sleep well?" Wesley asked when Fred walked into his office the following morning. "You look a bit better."

Fred slowly nodded and poured herself a cup of coffee. She sat down opposite of Wesley and pushed her wet hair out of her face. "How long have you been here?" she asked, taking a small sip of the hot beverage.

"About an hour and I have some good news," Wesley said, his lips lifting into a small smile. Fred raised her eyebrows and waited for him to continue. "Rupert is going to contact a friend of his and ask her to help us."

"Oh?" Fred said, setting her cup down. "And what can she do that we haven't already tried?"

"She's a witch," Wesley said before getting up to get another book from the shelf. "A quite powerful one from what Rupert says."

"Willow's a witch too," Fred pointed out. "We could ask her for help."

"True," Wesley said, sitting back down, "but Rupert's friend is a real witch with real magic." Fred gave him a confused look and he sighed. "She uses a wand."

"Oh," Fred said before she picked up her cup of coffee. "I… I guess I learn something new everyday. And will she be able to help us?"

"Rupert seems to think so," Wesley said, smiling. Fred smiled back, knowing how much he loved the other man and knowing that Rupert wouldn't lie to them about rather or not his friend could help.

Maybe things were finally turning around.
