Maybe I'll post more than once this summer. Maybe. Also: TL; DR!

Honestly, I forget how to do this, if I let months and months pass between entries. It used to be easy and almost automatic to post a few times a week, though I never approached doing it daily or more than that. Now it almost never occurs to me, or when it does, it feels like a huge slog, to write. I don't know why. I still write a lot, and ( Read more... )

Your family fascinates me. I can't imagine having intelligent political arguments with most people in mine, or that kind of sustained history. It's really amazing.

My condolences on your uncle's death. I bet he was awesome. I love the idea of offering his books and making bookmarks. I hope someone does that for me when I die.

And Devlin is adorable as always.

Love your mom's sculpture and lamp. I'm exhausted just reading about your summer so far!

It's funny, everyone in my family was left - pretty much - but the knock-down drag-outs were always about money. I also wish there were more than a handful of photos. Nobody is much for cameras.

When my grandmother moved into assisted living she got rid of almost everything in a maniac fit of destruction, and it was bad. She took remeron for a while and I think it briefly pitched her into a near manic state. So we have a lot less from that side of the family than we even might have had.

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle, though it sounds like the sendoff was overall a valuable moment for the family.

Devlin is gorgeous. I wish my kitty didn't hold grudges. If her dinner is even a mere five minutes late, the entire world will know about it :)

I spent most of my high school and college breaks working for NUL, in stack control. I worked in the Archives, too, for one part of one summer; PQ was the master of nepotism there, in terms of student assistants. The NUL is an odd and interesting place. I see that Deerborn opens from the front now! I am intrigued by that, though I haven't visited yet. Special Collections is amazing... their Paris Commune collection of cartes de visite, unbelievable. Oh, and I worked in the Curriculum Collection for one summer, too, which was kind of wonderful because the then head let me do all the ordering for the next year, just told me the budget and handed me review journals.
