Not Quite NaNoWriMo

I'm not technically participating in NaNoWriMo, having already started a novel a couple of weeks ago--and I'm certain that I won't be hitting 1667 words every day. But November is an infectiously encouraging time to write and post progress reports nevertheless, and writing a novel in this month always does seem to put an extra spring in my step.

Judging from the snippets those last weeks, you're up to some historical fantasy again. Fun. I'm doing my PhD on the French epics about Charlemagne, so that one is really interesting.

Yep, this book is much about Charlemagne--except here he's 19 years old, magic is afoot in the world, and his whole family (including King Pepin III, who'd been on the throne for only a year at the time) was wiped out nine years before by a sorcery-driven pneumonic plague.
