Not Quite NaNoWriMo

Nov 01, 2007 20:00

I'm not technically participating in NaNoWriMo, having already started a novel a couple of weeks ago--and I'm certain that I won't be hitting 1667 words every day. But November is an infectiously encouraging time to write and post progress reports nevertheless, and writing a novel in this month always does seem to put an extra spring in my step.

PROGRESS REPORT FOR 11/1/07

New Words: 1050 on No Magic, the last scene of chapter 2.

Total Words: 8450.

Reason For Stopping: Finished the chapter, and had pressing prosaic matters that needed attending to.

Mammalian Assistance: Elder Black Cat kept my lap warm after scaring me by careening down the stairs. (Bear in mind she's something like 15 years old; "careening" is not normally a word you want to associate with such a long-lived feline.)

Exercise: Half a ticket round, and 1 1/2 walks from home to the library.

Stimulants: The last couple tablespoonfuls of homemade German Baptist peach ice cream.

Today's Opening Passage: Gaudulf answered the summons with hesitation--not fear, for he would not allow himself that. There was always hesitation. He could not stand to look upon the faraway, not quite there place he was called to.

Darling Du Jour: Between Gaudulf and the ancient wicked sorcerer, Shadem:

"Theudgar is stubborn. He is a Frank."

"Yes, and the very name Frank means free man. He will be more willing to seek me out and surrender his freedom if he believes his freedom is threatened."

Books In Progress: Fred Chappell; Sean Williams.
