Cynical? Maybe. But usually right.

Sarah Palin has tried to refute the evidence that her son Trig is really her grandson by claiming that her daughter Bristol, who allegedly gave birth to Trig four and a half months ago, is five months pregnant. I expect a miscarriage. Or else Bristol really is pregnant (again), but she will suffer complications and neither mother nor child will ( Read more... )

honestly the older the woman the more likely it is that she would have a baby with downs. the chances of a 16-17 y.o being pregnant with a downs baby is very low to say the least as it is a disorder of gametes aging...i just feel bad for the 17 y/o as this is a bad enough situation to begin with, having it blasted all over the world and then being told by your parents that marrying at 17 is a GREAT idea for redemption are just too much....

Actually, I think you've got it backwards.
"Does the risk of Down syndrome increase with the mother's age? Yes. The risk of Down syndrome increases from about 1 in 1,250 at age 25, to 1 in 1,000 at age 30, 1 in 400 at age 35, 1 in 100 at age 40 and 1 in 30 at age 45 (6). Women over age 35 have been traditionally considered most likely to have a baby with Down syndrome. However, about 80 percent of babies with Down syndrome are born to women who are under age 35, as younger women have far more babies (2)"

Actually, that last sentence is a little screwy, but the data seems to be correct at least.

What we have here is one baby that we know has Downs. The stats to look for are not the % of mothers in a known age group who give birth to a Downs baby, but ....

Actually, I don't even understand stats enough to finish that sentence. That and I haven't slept in 36 hours or so. Feck.

Feck it. It's Sarah's baby. The DailyKos story you madscience linked previously laid out a very very thorough, though circumstantial, case. All that speech giving and remote parts of Alaska flying to ... after her waters allegedly broke ... extremely suspect.

As an aside, your icon and username are a land of win that intrigues me no end.
