I don't get the wailing about Winter Rose myself. It's all just silly fantasy and fun. If she wants to stay on the Bright And Sparkly Side Of Life all the time, have mild and/or fleeting obsessions over silly things, and conflate her own worth in her LJ, who cares? Let her be happy with little things and write silly stories of how she views romance. So what if she's a flake? And why do people care if some random chick on the internet doesn't feel like acting like a grown-up?
It reminds me of the gnashing of teeth over badfic, and the cries of "my fandom is being raped!", which really just make the complainant look a bit hysterical. And just like badfic, people are never going to change Rose and she's not going to go away. The very idea of taking her seriously enough to complain that "OMG she's SO not environmentally conscious!!" boggles me, actually.

Incidentally, just checked out the new GAFF. I see what you were talking about re: no colour now. I thought we were still on the pale orange/pale yellow board of last week. *shame*
