Frankly I think the "political voting" thing is invoked too much as an excuse not to bother our holes. Finland won in 2006 and got rad points from almost every country because they appealed to a genre not usually seen at Eurovision (who knows if it'll work again this year though). It can be done.
There's more at work than just people voting for their neighbours. Like, sending professional artists with songs written by professionals. If we (by which I mean RTÉ) don't make an effort (and we haven't made one for a long time, Brian Kennedy excluded), of course we're not gonna win.
