How Long Must We Sing This Song?

Apr 17, 2022 17:48

Coming across this old favourite the other day, I knew I had to post it for Easter.  Is it a song decrying the violence in Ireland, or in Selma, Alabama, or anywhere else?  Well, there have been a bloody shitload of Bloody Sundays in modern history, so take your pick.  How long must we sing this song?!

I'm not a "religion-on-my-sleeve" person, but I do have the deep belief that if people actually LIVED their faith the world would be a much, much better place as there are few religions indeed (if any) that actually preach "be terrible to each other" or "look out for number one and none else."

I agree. And I believe you live your Christianity very well. This is one thing I like so much about you ( ... )

Aw, thank you. I try!

A lot of athiests and supposed heretics were made by the hypocrisy of the Religious Establishment, that is certain.

I think rules like the 10 commandments are a stepping stone to higher moral awareness and practice. Most religion is geared towards people who are not more developed yet.

And I think that is exactly it. The 10 commandments was the law the people could handle at the time. Jesus tried to teach the higher law and it seems many of us are still struggling with the idea we shouldn't kill each other or take each others' stuff and are hung up on lesser laws when the two simplest commandments of love God and love thy neighbor are followed you automatically keep the lesser laws.

That's true.

And lying, covetting wife, covetting goods, etc., are all pretty much the same general thing.
