As some of you know, I was a classic Whovian Back in the Day. I wrote fanfic about Seven, my first fanfics ever. I watched all the episodes, even the telesnap reconstructions. I went to conventions. I'm not an Eleven girl either. I just can't get into him or Amy. Ten on the other hand... *wanders off to, er, meditate*

My husband and I had this same discussion on and off throughout the entire series. We wanted to like Matt Smith, we tried really hard, but in the end, I just feel kind of meh about him.

I think we decided that a majority of it is the weight Tennant brought to Ten. Yes, he ran around in crazy sunglasses blabbering about banana daquiris and generally being a ADD nutterball a good chunk of the time, but you could tell that most of it was a front. When it got down to it, he was The Doctor, The Oncoming Storm, and you knew if he was pissed it meant trouble.

If Eleven said he was The Oncoming Storm I'd pee my pants laughing. I just can't take him seriously. Eleven has retained all of Ten's manic tendencies with none of the redeeming seriousness of feeling or depth.

But that's just me. I'm sure there are tons of people that like Eleven just fine. I'll keep watching (cause I like Rory, unbelieveably), but it's just kind of a thing to watch, not an absolute necessity.

I love Matt Smith.

I have vague memories of Who from childhood and started watching New!Who sometime between S3 and S4. I definitely agree that Vincent and the Doctor was very much NOT the episode to start with. The thing about S5 is, more than any other season, there were very few "okay" episodes for me -- they were either ones I really liked or ones I didn't like at all. So I second the "start from the beginning" vote, and then see how you feel. Eleven might grow on you, he might not...I think Matt Smith is doing an amazing job, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I've totally fallen for Eleven, if that makes sense.
