As some of you know, I was a classic Whovian Back in the Day. I wrote fanfic about Seven, my first fanfics ever. I watched all the episodes, even the telesnap reconstructions. I went to conventions. I'd really suggest starting from the beginning of S5 to really get an opinion on Matt Smith. After all, Vincent and the Doctor isn't really that big of a DW episode. There is, as you pointed out, hardly a plot, and while the episode is generally sort of awesome, it didn't do much for the characters or the plot. It's just sort of...pretty and awesome on its own. I really don't think you'd get a good perception of Eleven from that episode alone.

Just as an aside-- I cry at like, every Dr. Who episode. I just started watching the new series (from the 9th Doctor) and we're in season 3, which I love (though seemingly getting a little darker than 1 & 2?). But I seriously cry big sobby tears after almost every episode.

The funny thing is that I find myself getting used to the new doctor and accepting him (well, for the first two of the new series - not sure if I'll adjust to Matt Smith), but find that no companion is living up to Rose. Actually, I kind of like Amy (not even because of her name), but all the other companions have been either annoying or forgettable to me.

I'm kinda an anomaly in the Doctor Who fandom as Nine did nothing for me, I HATED Rose with a passion, loved Martha as much as fandom hated her and pretty much love Eleven to bits. I'm of the mind that you like who like. I have a friend who declared she didn't like Eleven. I called her crazy and then we moved on :)
