*nods* I'd jump on that SkyBus opportunity while you can; the travel industry is v. skeptical about whether they can make a go of it. I'm not sure I buy into their arguments but hell yeah if I were you I'd make hay while the sun shines and all that.

AFA Toronto - I just like BEING there b/c it feels good. The last time we were there we did v. boring touristy-with-kids things, and they were fine but probably not your thing. If you like theatre, the Stratford is one of those Important Festivals and it's well into its season; check out May's calendar here.

I read their "How the Hell Can We Do This?" statement on their website and many of their cost-saving measures seem pretty valid. Flying into less-used airports, minimizing staffing and overhead, offering only a set number of destinations and flight times thus minimizing their fleet size...I don't know if that's enough to make their crazy low fares viable to sustain their business, but I hope they can make a go of it, because if it works it could be a new model for airline travel.

how funny, I was about to post the same thing, except reversed. Went to school in Asheville, drove to Chapel Hill multiple times a month.

Asheville is GORGEOUS, Lori. If you decide to go, make a post, and I'll fill you in on some awesome spots to go :)

If you're going to Toronto, the Ontario Science Center is soooooo worth it. (It's a wee bit outside of Toronto itself, but SO MUCH GEEKERY.) The Tactile Dome inside of it is the best thing ever.

Shoot, your flight to Greensboro might cost less than it costs to drive from Greensboro to Asheville (it's still pretty good, though, because Charlotte is probably the only nearer airport, and it's just about as far). But, as has been noted above, Asheville to Greensboro is actually about 3 hours (but a straight shot on I-40).

I'm from Ottawa so my bias would be to say don't go to Toronto, come here instead! However, if you insist on going to TO, I would second the recommendation for the Ontario Science Centre. Kensington Market is also really fun and has some neat little shops. I'm not sure whether or not the previous poster is aware that Stratford is actually a considerable drive from TO (2 hours or so depending on traffic).

*nods* And when I commented I was sort of assuming that Lori would be driving up from the Detroit side of the lake, which actually sort of makes it easier.

FWIW, Lori, the OSC was one of those kiddy touristy places I was referring to. It was fun, but probably not something I would have enjoyed as much without children, even with the science background.

I wasn't sure whether or not she was driving so I just wanted to warn her that you can't just on the subway :) Of course if you are driving, Lori, there are some wonderful Canadian wineries just a stone's throw from Toronto.

Actually it's much faster (and cheaper, no ferries) to drive around Erie and Niagara Falls, so we'll be driving that way.
