So, friends and neighbors, Verizon is ending unlimited data plans. You may have heard about this. I have always been a Verizon customer and I switched over to a smartphone two years ago, so I've been paying the $30 a month for my unlimited-usage data plan ( Read more... )

I'm hearing conflicting info that current Verizon data plan subscribers will be grandfathered in, but no one knows what happens if you reup your contract and get a new phone.

Since I'm not likely to buy a new phone or reup my plan until next January, I'm trying not to worry about it.

I'm hearing that if you reup your plan before the effective (July 7th?) you'll keep the rate you're currently at. At least for the next two years. I'm due for a new phone very soon so I'll likely go ahead and do it before then.

Figures. I'm eligible for a new phone on July 17th.
(Not that I have $200 for a new phone, anyway.)

You clearly have never surveyed the "boys 5 and under" set about Cars. I think it is HUGELY popular in that age group. At least it is for my son and his friends. Hence all the merchandising success that you mention. We've watched it countless times. In fact, I'm going to have to buy a new DVD, b/c we've ruined the first one.

That said, the new movie has automatic weapons-fire a la James Bond and "killing" of cars, so I'm very unlikely to be willing to let me 3.5 year old see it. WHAT were they thinking? It's particularly upsetting, b/c there are billboards with it everywhere and the other kids are abuzz.

You're right, not really my age group! And it did make a ton of money, so there you go.

Wow. I had no idea. (Of course, I'm one of the few people who were disturbed by the violence in Ratatoullie, so I'm convinced I'm the only person that cares about this kind of thing.)

This doesn't apply to text messages. I will still have unlimited texting. This is now capping data usage for Net surfing etc.

At least, I don't THINK they're doing away with unlimited texts. This seems to be about the data plans.

I'm just getting ready to buy a smartphone and was debating how important it was to hurry and get the unlimited data plan. I would probably be using it about the same as you, or even less, so it's good to know I won't be in any trouble. I don't really want to pay $30/mo if I don't have to.

You will be anyway. $30 a month is the minimum, for 2G. It'll go up from there. It used to be that $30 a month got you the unlimited, but now it'll just get you 2G.

Holy crap. That pisses me off. I'm going to rush in and sign up for unlimited right now.

Lord. Really? Maybe we could downgrade a bit. I have Sprint, and we have for almost 10 years. The unlimited data plan just went up for our most recent contract, and it is costing us a fortune to have 2 phones. On top of that, they force you to pay $10 for 4G whether you have 4G service or not. Which we don't have in Indy. Total ripoff.

Also: I have decided to declare a moratorium on people smelling or tasting like strawberries in fic. NO MORE. I PROCLAIM IT TO BE SO.

What? Please tell me you aren't seeing this in Sherlock fic. Please.

I saw it in a kinkmeme fill earlier. But it was referring to a girl. NOT THAT MAKES IT ANY BETTER.

But I have a loooong list of fanfic tropes I'd like to declare a moratorium on, so whatevs.
