According to an article in the Mirror, the recent remake of Brideshead Revisited has bombed in the States. This is a bad state of affairs for any film, really, but I’m not surprised: there was absolutely no need to churn out a carbon copy of the 1980s miniseries, so why should anyone think that a new version over twenty-five years later could cash ( Read more... )

I think that remakes are the same: most of them are not done well and are an 'easy' way to make money for the studios. Something was a hit once, so we'll just do it again... It doesn't work like that.

And the irony is that the studios usually believe they are 'improving' upon the original!

A case in point, though I don't actually care about the book or any of the adaptations, is Wuthering Heights - this gothic melodrama has been covered I don't know how many times, but there is a new miniseries and a film in the pipeline! Still, if Catherine is at least English this time, it can only be an improvement (Juliette Binoche?)
