Around the World With a Camera: 1909

Jun 09, 2009 11:33

Last year while visiting friends I bought a book published in 1910 called Around the World With a Camera. There are photos from around the world depicting people and animals doing every day things as well as a special section for stars of the theatre. Anyway, since it's now beach season, I thought I'd post a photo that was taken near where I live ( Read more... )

I think I know those friends ;)

These are such fantastic images ~ I'm glad they were captured at the time. And oooh, the proportion of parasols being used compared to today *causes me to long wistfully*... no outfit (or buggy!) is quite complete without one!

We still need to do a trip to the shore one of these days ~ if not this time, we should definitely plan a flouncy beachside romp for the future :)

Yeah, those friends are pretty good and showed me a great time!! ;)

The weather is looking rather icky for Monday so far. Hopefully the rain will hold off for our trip to Longwood!

We can be flexible... maybe if it does look like rain Monday (which is an excellent excuse for having to stay and not hit the road that day!) and the day we had planned for the museum ends up being more pleasant weather-wise, we can go to Longwood that day instead, and save the museum for the rain. :)

I love that they described the fabrics and the colors. I also love the white linen tailored suit, worn by the young set. I've wanted to make the S&S Beatrice Potter suit like this, and it's so pretty.
Now what in the world are "ragged robins" on that hat?

Wow, neat!

I wish they still had those riding baskets!

I bet they were hot...

*memories of Victorian parties past*

PS-It's supposed to be nice this weekend.

Those are so cool! I can't imagine wearing those on the beach though! :-)
