Stuck on 76

So there's this major highway that runs from Philadelphia to Valley Forge called I-76. I hate this road. It's only two lanes and really needs to be 3. Always, always backed up. So they decided it would be a good idea NOT to salt this major roadway last night, or any of the major roadways, despite freezing rain on top of already frozen roads ( Read more... )

Thanks! Yeah, I'm also glad I wasn't one of the many who slid across the ice into whatever stopped the forward momentum!

Can I cut and paste your entry?

Getting home last night was HORRIBLE. And I don't do well driving past my bed time. :(

Ah, yes, Plymouth Meeting. So once 76 got moving at 5:15, how did you deal with 476? I saw cop cars blocking off the entrance to 476 S, so I assume 476 N was blocked off as well.

Yeah, after 4 hours parked on 76 I get up to the exit for 476 and . . . the cops have blocked the off ramp.

I continued on 76W to the Turnpike and came back East to make it to my apartment just in time for sunrise.

So sleepy.

Yeah, all night and all alone as Jason didn't come out with me because he had to work today. And thank god he didn't come! He'd have gotten no sleep at all!

OMG I can't imagine how harrowing that must've been. I almost never take 76 if I can avoid it. I am a fan of Kelly Drive or West River Drive or even Ridge Ave if I am feeling particularly adventurous for the ghetto portion of the journey.

Apparently, all roads and especially non-highway were so dangerous that taking secondary roads would have been life-threatening. I can't imagine taking 23 home last night with all those hills. Had I known, I would have crashed at Kiki's and come home in the morning!

I got home around midnight and it wasn't that bad. I even took Kelly Drive home. Tim couldn't make it into work this morning because just about every road was shut down. I can't imagine having to spend that much time on 76.

Glad you got home with no trouble! For the rest of my life, I would like to never spend that much time on 76 again.
