Is chatting not done anymore or am I just completly out of the loop? I dont mean MSN/AIM/Yahoo chat, I mean like chat rooms and shit. People still do that?
Couldn't tell you. I've never been in a chat room before and probably wouldn't unless it was someone that was from another country that could share some really different experiences from mine (does that make sense??). Like you, I think it's really neat that you live in the UAE (am I saying that right?).
How long have you been using the net? From what I remember, chat rooms used to be all the rage back in the late 90s!
Maybe it was because there was no forums, livejournals, myspace, etc for people to easily communicate.
Anyway, I loved chat rooms for the exact same reason you listed, except for me it was easy, because every chat room was from America or Europe, so I was, "Woah culture shock!"
I've been on the net for about 9-10 years but I just never got into chat rooms and the like. My little sister is 24 and that was more her generation I think, she was into computers way more than I was. I'm only just now getting into the LJ thing!
i have no idea either. i always found chat rooms, even irc and the special ones i visited related to particular sites and news, really, really annoying. people who want to hang around 'in' chatrooms must be very strange.
i think adults who are out of the loop always assume that that's what we're all doing on the web the whole time. my mum always used to say 'are you in a chat room again?' i'd be like 'what? i haven't been in a chatroom for about 3 years! i'm talking to my cousin on msn!'
Yeah, my siblings dont seem to be in chat rooms either, so I guess it just disappeared or something. Its all about myspace-sites and shit, and of course, private chats
I was going to mention that, but I've only seen my brother use MIRC/IRC. It's still used, in my experience, as a last resort when the corporate sponsored message boards to an old game get downsized.
