At around 6.20pm on a Thursday evening several weeks ago, Claire emerged from the bathroom waving a white pen-sized thing which looked a bit like some piece of gadgetry used on Star Wars to determine the presence of alien life forms. It turned out that wasn’t too far from the truth.
