They do say that you lose fitness twice as fast as you gain it. So if you go, say, 3 weeks without riding a bike or similar exercise, it’ll take you 6 weeks to get back to the level of fitness you were at.
Which is the reason why mopeds are the way to go...

Or get one of those motor-bicycles thingys. I think Sinclair made one. Motor up hill, pedal down. On the flats, it’s your discretion.

I’m actually a lot happier having successfully completed the journey home without the need for a defribulator, as I have discovered one of the reasons while I struggled so much this morning - my bicycle has 2 flat tyres. Which kind of explains why I found it so bloody difficult to pedal 4.5 miles this morning.
That, and being so incredibly out of shape of course.
