I'm going to post a fairly unusual opinion here, and claim that Twilight the Movie is better than Twilight the book. Why? Because today I made my first attempt at reading the book, and while I can't say it's the worst thing ever, the thing kind of reads like a self-insert fanfiction. At least the movie feels like it had a semi-competent director

So, you also tried to read those novels, then? You aren't the first person I heard to say so about the novels VS the movie. Perhaps the speeche should be sumarized into something like "At least in the movie I don't heard Bella's teen ramblings all the time".
I know how popular those books have become these days, but let's admit it: Bella is a very big MarySue-self inserction of the author in some moderm-vampire-like universe. The only reason because the novels have become so popular is bec they fit the current "Dark-fantasy-urbanic" type of story among teens and young people. Surely many girls find themselves self-indentificated with Bella in some degree.
Anyway, there is a story behind, and it certainly can hook people. So I guess it also makes the novels more enjoyable.

In the end, I find mostly of people (at certain age) who read "Twilight" was because "I want to make a fair critizism to this thing" instead because they're truly interested in the story.
What you say is truth. But the real reason because the author just spends pages and more pages telling us how wonderful is Bella's life is just because Bella is a MarySue... the author selfporyected on that character. Perhaps the editor should have corrected that, but we don't know under which circunstances those novels were published. Look at "Eragorn" novels, for example... those books were made by a boy who actually happend to be the son of certain publishers and editors. That's why such pile of shit was published.
