The Archlord Leno smiled his robotic, unfeeling smile, and stroked at his preposterously square chin. "Did you hear this?" he said in his voice synthesized from the deathsqueals of weasels and the terrified wails of children. "This is true. It turns out that Marvel comics just made Jeph Loeb head of their new TV division. Yeah, Kevin! It's true! ( Read more... )

what's the big deal?

1. Marvel hasn't had a TV show in years. It's not like he taking over a massiver machine that was running perfectly.

2. TV generally has censors. Blob eating the Wasp on TV is not happening.

3. As the head of the division he probably isn't going to be doing much writing. He may get to greenlight projects for development, but it's going to be from the same finite pool that already existed.

And if he does do some writing his loose connection with continuity fits better on TV than in comics.

Or does he have some history on TV that I'm missing?

1. Marvel has many TV shows right now, they're just animated.

2. I'm not worried about him doing disgusting things, I'm worried about him doing STUPID things.

3. He will still undoubtedly have creative input, and therein lies the problem.

And his history in TV just happens to be the worst seasons of both Smallville and Heroes.

Look on the bright side, if he really f's up, Marvel will lose money. Then they'll most likely fire his ass right then.

That sentence demonstrates a colossal misunderstanding of Hollywood physics.

More likely, lost money equals head of studio and sole dictator of prevailing film trends for more than a decade. He's through the Looking Glass now. Nothing short of shouting bigoted, anti-semetic slurs at an Anti-Prop 8 protest of the Academy Awards could damage his career trajectory now. And even then...

Yeah that's film, this is television. How many different shows got axed because they weren't getting enough ratings, aka. earning enough money?

You realize Ben Silverman was promoted to stem the damage he'd been doing to NBC, right?

The only advantage I am seeing here is that he might just not have enough time to write horrible comics. But then again, it's Jeph Loeb, he most likely will find the time to produce something resembling an epic fail and make me scratch my eyes out.
