It was late. Really late. If he’d had any sense, he’d have knocked off hours ago, but he’d had a tough day and was too wound up to mooch around at home, or to trawl through the Little Black Book for a willing conquest for the evening. In any case, he could never properly relax knowing that Doyle was out there somewhere, out of contact, undercover. Safe enough, probably, but you never knew in this game. He knew he shouldn’t, knew Doyle wouldn’t thank him for it, but he worried. Couldn’t help himself
