Ironically enough, with this particular fic, knowing your attitude toward Sam is what makes the story work. I know you think she'd hand him his balls on a platter, which is why I can read this and find it wrenching.

If it were an earnest attempt at characterization by an author who had already established a certain level with cluelessness, I might well be screaming bloody murder.

Does this make me a hyprocrite?

That is the really disturbing part.

I have to say, for a moment I could see it. Yes, I think Sam would kick the ass of anyone who tried to lay a hand on her. Except possibly if her relationship with Jack became just that twisted. I guess this is a cautionary tale under the heading of "It Can Happen to Anyone."

Me either. I just can't see Jack ever becoming abusive. The series suggests that he's actually a pretty gentle person in several places. I don't really get people who sincerely believe that he could really deliberately hurt someone he loves like that.
