What is it about events planned specifically for networking that brings out the boringest motherfuckers in the world? I've noticed similar demographics around here, unless you're in a tech field (all men, but young) or a media field (all women, all ages, all desperate to hand out cards RIGHT NOW OMG).

Ahem, that is...no, that's entirely accurate. :)
There's one good networking event in town and one kinda mediocore one that has some potential to improve. Other than that, it's a whole lot of self reinforcing behavior.
On the other hand, my cold calls are doing really well. Hoo boy, it's great to be a grown up!
