We used to have the opposite problem. Back when we were in high school, one of Sarah's younger friends came trick-or-treating (she led a motley crew of all ages hers and younger), and when Athena answered the door, the little girl said, "It's Sarah's mother!" These days people tend to think we're younger than we are (or at least the ones who see us at conventions and Disneyland do), but we still wonder if it's a compliment to Mom or an insult to us when store people think we're sisters.
Me & My Brothers 10! Is that the one with... was her name Makoto? That was too cute.
It WAS the one with Makoto! Ohh, little kids in manga are just too cute (real little kids are pretty adorable too, hee). Her shower hat was so cute! Oh, and then the story with little Takeshi at the end. Little Takeshi is the best♥ (helping Tsuyoshi with his math problems, oh!!) Anyway, after reading this volume I knew that an entire series filled with tiny children drawn by Tokeino-sensei would be incredibly dangerous.
Even little kids don't believe I'm as old as I am!! I've always despaired that I could never be a teacher even if I wanted to, because the kids would all tower above me. But if my hair goes grey early like my mum's, maybe that'll show everyone! (heh)
There are quite many girl/woman characters in shojo manga are like that I think. Happy Cafe, Honey and Clover, and Penguin Revolution are the titles that came to my mind.
I agree she could have phrased the question a bit more politely and not so condescending like that. On the other hand, that means you are young looking, that's good, right?
Yes, I always thought some of the criticism of H&C's Hagu looking too young was unfair. I identified with that part of her character!! Oh yeah, Happy Cafe too :D I'm not inhumanly strong like Uru, though... hahaha. (and, hmm, most of these characters have short bobbed hair, but I actually look (slightly) older when my hair is short.)
I think people don't mean to be condescending or rude when they just say what comes to mind like that, so I'm not offended by it :D But it's amusing when it happens multiple times in one day. I could probably make an effort to look older if I really wanted to, but I'm content with the way I am.
"... but I actually look (slightly) older when my hair is short." That's interesting, since girls/women in general tend to look older with longer hair.
Me & My Brothers manga? It's a very very very cute series. I can let you borrow it sometime :D (I'll bring it tomorrow if the weather's alright!) The icon I used for this entry and this comment is from one of the covers...
I just realized that we have the same layout, only in different colors! Oh and I wanted to tell you in case you didn't get the message - Nora's show has moved to Monday (cause school was closed at 3 on Thurs. and the weather was gross)
