We're slowly getting around to telling people the good news. Yesterday, I organized a small drink for my colleagues (we usually have a drink on Friday evenings to start the weekend on the right foot ;-) and one of them gave me the garter she wore at her wedding for my "something old". I was really touched! It was wrapped in an empty box of pipette ( Read more... )

You're going to San Francisco? So you're going to be in my corner of the world? :D I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. How long are you going to be here? Are you thinking of visiting the wine country?

Dress warmly while you're in SF. If you've heard the old song about "warm San Francisco nights," know that it is a lie. There is no such thing as a warm San Francisco night. The streets are always packed with vendors selling sweatshirts to shivering tourists. XD Northern California is definitely not part of this "sunny California" I keep hearing about...

We're going to a conference, but we're staying a few days to soak up the views - we're also hopping over to Yosemite Park. We'll be there for 10 days total.

Thanks for the clothing tip - I was indeed imagining balmy nights, but wasn't quite sure what to put in my suitcase. Sweaters it is!

Windbreakers are a good idea too, as I've yet to spend a day in SF that wasn't ridiculously windy. It's often overcast as well, and the fog always rolls in at night, even in summer (this is true throughout the bay area- which is why I'm always slightly weirded out by anyplace that does have warm nights, heh). SF is a beautiful city, but you can't say the same about its weather (I rather like it, but I'm a bit weird).

Yosemite is absolutely gorgeous. Have an excellent time! I'd offer to come play tour guide if I wasn't stuck in Davis doing the college thing. Course I'd be utterly useless in SF, but I could *pretend* to know what I'm talking about.
