Title: "Transformation" Author:luvvycat Characters: James Norrington, Weatherby Swann, Elizabeth Swann Rating: G BPS Prompt: Wonder Word count: 100 Disclaimer: PotC is Disney's, not mine. *sniff*
What a treat. Worth the read for knowing Norrington's face. Worth it becos I rather think that was the way Elisabeth came into herself--skinny colt legged gal for the longest time and then one day, she is just grown into herself. Pretty party.

Yes, I can imagine him utterly gobsmacked to discover the object of his "worshipping from afar" was actually Elizabeth! A priceless moment, indeed! :-)

Ah, yes! The dreaded puberty "growth-spurt" most girls go through ... one moment, shapeless nothing ... then, as though overnight, long legs, boobs, and a waistline! ;-)
Of course, had Norrington been around more frequently, he might not have noticed the gradual metamorphosis taking place in Elizabeth. But being absent from Port Royal the better part of a year, the transformation from young coltish tomboy to graceful young woman would have surely been a dramatic one, in his eyes!
Thank you so much for reading, and Commenting! Glad you enjoyed the drabble, and found it a "treat"! :-)
Sad to think that, ultimately, none of his dreams for a happy future came true. (Thanks a lot, T&T!) :-(
I miss the good ol' days.
Easy to have nostalgia for those halcyon days of post-CotBP, pre-sequel PotC ... when all of our favourite characters were alive and well and relatively happy, the future was still bright and full of possibilities for all (save for Barbossa, that is!), and Lord Cutler Beckett was only a sadistic twinkle in two scriptwriters' eyes... ;-)
Indeed- James' interest in Liz probably started just that way.
I've always thought that, where Elizabeth was concerned, love must have just snuck up on James rather suddenly. As (one assumes) a frequent visitor to the Swann household over the years, I imagine that he would have developed a fondness for the Governor's young daughter, as a family friend would, or perhaps a doting uncle. I think he was as surprised as anybody to find those feelings of avuncular affection transformed to love, and a desire to make her his wife.
Thank goodness the poor disappointed man has a second life in fan fiction.
Amen to that! ;-)

I can't help but get the feeling that the Swanns were the only family James had ever really known, so I love this already, him coming home and a party in full swing. It paints a fun, domestic picture of merriment. "...holiday candlelight gently kissed a delicately-curved cheek" is such a unique description of Elizabeth and certainly the most vivid in the sentence. Any time Norrington's feathers get ruffled is rewarding, so for him to realize this is Elizabeth is just fantastic. And so begins the, I'm guessing, long, awkward courtship that resulted in that unintentionally wacky marriage proposal in COTBP.

Absolutely! They might have served as a sort of surrogate family to James, given the long separation from his own family dictated by his naval career and his post in the faraway Caribbean (or perhaps, as reserved as the Norringtons seem to be, he never really was that close to his own family). Swann certainly seemed eager enough to accept him as a prospective son-in-law, and looked forward to officially making him part of the family!

I would guess that the Governor's holiday ball was the event of the year in Port Royal, and how fortuitous it was that James' return from business abroad coincided with the celebration! Quite a welcome-home party for him! :-)

And agreed with sharklady35 about fics doing justice to him. *sniff*
Well, James sure deserves a bit of TLC from us fan writers, given the bum hand he was dealt by TPTB! ;-)
Thanks so much for reading, and Commenting!
