It seems that, in the PotC world, breaking bottles over people's heads is a sure way to take them out.

> "We did have one bottle of fine brandy, but it has, unfortunately, been sacrificed to a greater good." <

My, such precise diction so soon after a narrow escape. That chit is remarkably self-possessed!

> "What makes you think I'm in need, eh?"

"You're drunk, you're filthy, you've obviously been in a fight…"

"Well, besides that, of course…" <

Jack's panache is much harder to ruffle than his sartorial splendor, but it's still sad to picture him in such a disheveled state. I hope he'll recover soon.

In other words: I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

Yes, well, although I have no first-hand knowledge of the efficacy of this particular "treatment" for rendering a man unconscious, it's a device that has been used extensively practically throughout the history of filmmaking (so who am I to argue with convention?)! ;-)

Whether it's facing down and parlaying with invading pirates intent on abduction, bargaining at gunpoint with megalomaniacal Machiavellian little EITC demagogues, or standing up to rapacious Asian pirate lords, she's darn nigh unflappable! ;-) In fact, the only times I can recall Lizzie totally "losing her cool" in the films is when she's first confronted with the undead pirates ( ... )

They made a great team even back then!

Favorite line...

"Well, if you whelps are none the worse for wear, I'll just haul anchor now, and be on me way …" Wiping his bloodied sword on the seat of the unconscious man's trousers before sheathing it (after, in his drunken state, three failed attempts to find the scabbard), he touched the brim of his leather tricorne and turned on his heel to go.

So very Jack!

Enjoying this story so much, and I'm thrilled there's still a chapter to go! Thank you!

Didn't they, though, the three of them? ;-)

Thank you! I'm so glad you think so! Even though Will and Elizabeth don't know him from Adam (yet!) here, I wanted to keep enough Jack-ness there for the reader to recognise, even though I haven't yet positively identified him yet as Jack! ;-)

The man from the alley spared Will a lightning-quick glance-eyes black and sharp like a bird's in the grimy, battered face, despite his drunken mien-before he started, with mincing, cross-over steps, circling around the man with the knife, peppering him with a steady stream of verbal nonsense.
I love this, I love Jack's quick of the lip, looky-looky over here--just bafflin' 'em with well, you know. That's my boy! (sez the proud fanwo-man!)

With a small bow...leaving Elizabeth and Will to stare at his retreating back until he stopped and spun on his heel. "Well? Are you two comin', or not?" He flicked his fingers imperiously from Will...Will scrambled to collect the hamper and, exchanging a look with Elizabeth that was tantamount to a shrug...
Sooooo Jack--just seeps outta every pore on him even if he's sitting in a pile of poo! He is related somewhere in his past to the Pied Piper, I just know it--automatically drawing others into the gravity of his unique universe--(got me =DD). Yes indeed, more please!

Yep! The man knows what tactics work for him, and sticks with 'em! And Jack-babble can be infinitely distracting! ;-)

Gee, what a quaint turn of phrase (and glad I don't have the smell to go along with that visual)! LOL! ;-)

He is related somewhere in his past to the Pied Piper, I just know it--automatically drawing others into the gravity of his unique universe--(got me =DD).

Yes, the man just can't switch off that irresistible charisma, can he? Just pulls other right into his orbit (and into his schemes)!

Yes indeed, more please!

Part 4 will be going up soon! Stay tuned! ;-)

Thank you ever so much for sticking with the story, and for the lovely Comments! :-)

For a moment, it was worth the attack, and his own unfortunate wounding, if it meant getting to hold her like this, pressed to his chest, warm and safe in his arms.

Ah, to be a teenager again! (Not that I would want to, mind. *G*)

As you said elsewhere, you can tell Jack's at a low point in his adult life in this one, but he's still the same basic person we meet in CotBP. (Do you see this as something that happened in canon, or is this an AU story for you?) Good so far!

Nor would I! (Been there, done that!) But an adolescent Will Turner, in the grip of raging hormones, is a glorious thing, ain't it? ;-)

Yes, the same Jack, only a little younger, and in dire need of an infusion of hope to spur him on.

(Do you see this as something that happened in canon, or is this an AU story for you?)Since there's precious little historical detail that canon provides us regarding what happened prior to CotBP, and (at least until the 4th PotC film comes out) post-AWE, there's a lot of leeway for fan writers to to "fill in the blanks" for these more nebulous periods. My hope, when I write, is to acknowledge that canonical events as depicted ( ... )

Fantastic installment! This is going to be a memorable (although for some difficult to remember, perhaps... lol) night, no doubt about this! :)LOL!!! Yes, Jack's well and truly squiffed here, isn't he? Three sheets to the wind (but still with a rock-steady sword-hand, and wit enough to save two kids from danger ( ... )
