All both of you my faithful readers probably know that one of the ballot measures on the ballot here in California on November 4 is Proposition 8, which proposes to change the California constitution to define marriage as one man and one woman. I am so sorry you lost your brother...and it's horrifying that he felt he had to hide his lives..that he was not able to merge the two. I see gay men I know doing this right now, and it breaks my heart. There is one young man in my family..and he's so flamboyant and gay...but the religion he was brought up in doesn't allow it...so he denies it..and I know he would be dead to his family if he came out..so he doesn't. And that breaks my heart. My sister looked me in the eye and said "in the bible, gays are up there with murderers, if he came out he would be dead to me." And that this sort of blind hatred exists due to some outdated book written by MEN just pisses me off so much I can't even see straight ( ... )

That's a very sad story. Thank you for sharing it.

I hope it helps people understand the implications of Prop 8 and how discriminatory it is against real people.

I think that the story of your brother is a very good example of why prop 8 is an awful idea. I am hoping that this time around, the voters get it right. I am very sorry to hear about your brother and it makes me sad to think there maybe others out there right now who are in similar situations. It is very sad and I am very sorry for your loss.
