I stayed at Lake Placid Lodge in the summer of 2004 and had the best time ever! Rode bikes into town oh and we watched fourth of July fireworks over the lake! Good times!
Sounds like a glorious fall day, I'm envious. 1 1/2 hours is a nice length for an easy, relaxing hike, but sorry your BF's knee is hurting.
Thank you for checking out the skating. I'm rather surprised they are calling this between seasons as Regional Championships (start of the qualifying rounds for Nationals) are in early October. The top finishers at Sectionals and Nationals don't have to re-qualify but that still leaves more then half the spots at Nationals in contention.
Mirror Lake, yes overlooking that was where my cousin's house was. My impression would be on the SE "corner" say the 4 o'clock position if you are facing North but I could have been totally turned around there.

In the hotel at the top of the hill. Great views. Seen lots of folks on bikes. Going up big hills. Quads hurt just watching them. lol
