Defending Attacking Dave Sim

Click to read a "defense" of Dave Sim. Though by defense, I mean more of an attack on his critics. I don't feel like creating an account for whatever comics village is to leave a comment, so I'll just do so here.

1. I like the comic. In fact I'm mostly happy with the 13 phone books of collected Cerebus I own. Even as Sim's philosophies start ( Read more... )

From what I can recall of his various essays, Sim espouses that Women are naturally weaker (emotionally, socially, etc) than Men. But by using their Woman Power they can drain the Strength from Men, thus making Women Strong and Men Weak. Because Women are the uncreative Void and Men are the creative something. Energy. Or Source. Something. Theres piles more expanding on that, but I'm not even going to try and reread his essays to refresh my memory...

Exactly. I feel like grabbing this "defender" by the collar and yelling. "HEY? Yeah, feminist or not, I'm a libertarian-conservative with a great deal of bones to pick with the feminist establishment. A person wants to critique the marxist strains in feminist thought, the status of the family courts, the gender system in affirmative action policies, etc, I might not like the way they use "feminist" as shorthand for "liberal-democratic feminist," and I might find them eyeroll-inducing, but I'm NOT gonna call them a misogynist or a nutbag.

A person rhapsodizes about THE FEMALE VOID, conspiracies, the fact that god made women's asses in a way that indicates they should be SPANKED when they get out of line, says that Jesus' "two women shall be grinding together" parable is about TRIBADISM, NOT WHEAT GRINDING?

And, yeah, they're a goddamned misogynistic bag of batshit. "

Thankyou.

oh man, bat-shit out of his mind crazy. i am with you, though; i like cerebus a lot (in fact, i'm re-reading it now, in spurts) but he's a mysogynist because he wrote a giant essay about how women are trying to steal his chi, or male light, or creative energy, or whatever. looney tunes.

the 'insane' part reminds me of the 'bodily fluids' line from Dr. Strangelove for some reason...
