Female Superheroes: The Pitch

The folks at Comics Alliance and I have been brainstorming lately about how women are represented in comics. Not just numbers, but the way they are treated as characters. Are they treated as people, or two torpedo boobs and an ass to spice up a story?

That would be gloriously funny! All female characters are very sexualized, but if we think about it, aren't the male characters sexualized too? Although it normally doesn't seem to be to such a far extent.

Not exactly. They'r idealized, sure, with the big muscles, but the artists are never trying to make them look sexy on purpose.
Forget sexy, they're built like freaking Ken dolls! Like, I don't wanna see giant packages all over my comics, but somehow, the flat, junkless crotches that are the norm are even worse. Eeuugh, creepy!

Haha, I prefer the junkless crotches...Less awkward. However I do believe that in media they tend to sexualize far too much

Yeah, but since most comics writers, artists, and readers are men, their go-to idea of "sex appeal" is "sexualized women who appeal to men."

There are some really, really great comics out there, but unfortunately, there's huge piles of crap, too.

And if they can't just make everyone where pants . . . I'd like to at least know that they haven't all been horribly mutilated. (Won't anybody think of the comic-book children?! You're dooming them to certain extinction!)
