A boggart, Susan.

Been alright? I was out of commission myself for a couple of days. I hear your sister is upset.

I don't think I've ever heard of a boggart at least the way you're describing it.

She's still quite upset. As am I. Caspian is gone. And so are my brothers, Edmund and Peter.

Never? They're not common where I come from, rare in fact, but they are about. It's a spirit of sorts which is consumes fear.

I'm sorry for your loss, Susan. If you ever need to talk about this, I'm available. I imagine he meant a lot to all of you.

There's a theory.

You can't meet boggarts, they're not sentient.

A theory about people shadows? Muggle psychology?

They're brighter than fish.

...Since when were you on friendly enough terms to call him Severus?

I'm perfectly fine - and no problems except landing in the fountain.

Didn't catch cold from that, did you?

Hope it wasn't too rough on you, leaving and then coming back that way. I've been meaning to ask you, if you're happy here, and if you've made any friends.

... I wonder...

A boggart?

A boggart. Spirits that feed on fear, and change form to that which a person is most afraid of.

That doesn't sound very nice. They're not malicious, are they?

lupusnonfacit November 16 2008, 03:54:12 UTC
They're dark creatures. They're malicious by nature, but thankfully typically like to reside in places that people don't often disturb. Cellars or bureaus or the gaps under beds.

Only if it's a real shadow and not a figurative one. Alternately, lumos works well enough.

And you don't have a wand, but you've got a bureau, hm?
