ETA the fourth--bonus computer, not phone! So--I feel a bit like my point has been missed on some parts, so I wanted to clarify. I have absolutely no problem with cis-women-only rituals. What I have a problem with is when a ritual that is purported to be for "all women" or, in the case of Z's ritual, "the beauty and grace of the feminine form in ( Read more... )

Z Budapest has a lot of nerve thinking she makes sacred space for all women in any fashion. She doesn't make sacred space for me, that's for sure. Aside from how her tradition is not mine, her body policing attitude encourages others to practice similar conduct in other ways. And if any of my sisters are forbidden their status as women, my own womanhood is at risk. My personhood is at risk.

If we are all connected, we are all threatened by such behavior. I continue to hope and pray that Budapest's ignorance is replaced by knowledge and her hatred is replaced by love and respect.

At some point I imagine wearing pants or having short hair would have been enough to disqualify someone as a "woman". People need to wake up to the fact that we discover and define ourselves. Our bodies are something we possess. They are TOOLS for us, not our masters.

This whole thing has exactly the creepy stink that, imho, a naked ritual has to begin with. I sense an ulterior motive.

I don't sense an ulterior motive--only some ignorance, naivete, and possibly a generational disconnect.

Z is a well-respected elder (though as I said in my original comment, my own feelings have changed), but I feel that she just has not kept up with the times.

While I always support people's right to mix or not with people who are different, I DO feel that people who choose not to mix fall behind in their attitudes. Though I feel sad for such people, it is their choice.

I would have protested with you, too. I am very glad I did not give them any of my money. I would support any movement that would restrict that cash flow until the discrimination ends.
