YAY I was waiting for this post. TBH, I was really confused before when I saw you were a Nathan fan but had never seen Firefly, I didn't know that happened. Also Jaynestown is so funny but I kind of love the serious message at the very end of that ep just as much. but SPOILER
the statue being pushed over really is the best thing ever.

I originally saw the movie before I saw the show and was pretty meh about it but I find it a lot more enjoyable now that I know what's going on. I'm not going to harrass you to watch buffy or anything but at least you can now understand why people think Joss Whedon is good at things, so that's something! Slither, though, Slither you really should see if you want more awesome Nathan.

Oh man, that Office/HP thing was brilliant. I do watch the show, and they got the characters perfectly. I especially enjoyed Jim as Lupin because... he would. It would allow him to make the minimal effort in terms of making a costume (this is the guy who dressed as Facebook and a three hole punch. Plus, Pam and Angela dressed as the same thing in one of the Halloween episodes so A++ artist.

Funny you should say that - I watched The General's Daughter (which came out before Firefly) for the umpteenth time a little while ago, and John Travolta's character actually uses the word in a sentence. Maybe Joss stole it?! /random bit of trivia

Well, "shiny" isn't a phrase or a new word so I'm not surprised it might have been used previously in a similar context, but I think Firefly is probably responsible for popularizing it in fandom (and life!).
