The chambermaid… omg… brb, dying of laughter…

Charles, seemingly unperturbed, hadn’t moved; but Erik could feel the tension in the back of that thought, coiling, Charles ready to stop him if he sprang.

I really like this moment. It shows Charles's bravery - because it does take a lot of guts to not flinch in the face of an angry wolf, telepathy or no - but also his practicality and intelligence - he's giving Erik a chance to calm himself down, but he's not foolish, he has a contingency plan. And I love the way that Charles uses jokes and gentle snark to ease Erik back into calm.

His Charles, given a tiny cup of liquid drinking chocolate, made noises that were positively sinful. Erik stared, wide-eyed, at that tongue sliding over pink lips, and hated being a wolf.Omg… I really really want good hot chocolate now. Like, the Italian kind that reverses the normal American ratios of chocolate to water. Also, I know that Erik hates being a wolf because Charles looks so edible (I had to), but my first thought upon reading that sentence ( ... )

I was kind of hoping to have chapter five done tomorrow, but the problem there is, then I'll be out of things to post once I get back! And then it'll take even longer for the rest! But that part is nearly done, too. (Actual revelations about Charles's childhood. Very protective Erik.)

...I suspect it WOULD be a surprise, on your second day working somewhere, to walk in and find your employer playing chess with a wolf on the carpet! At least Charles is good at calming people down...

It shows Charles's bravery - because it does take a lot of guts to not flinch in the face of an angry wolf, telepathy or no - but also his practicality and intelligenceOh, yay! :-) I liked that moment too; Charles IS a courageous person, and he's been turning his castle into a refuge for the extraordinary people for years, and he's not afraid of much (other than the emotional scars). He's a good match for Erik, in that way: neither of them is ever intimidated by the other, really ( ... )

I dunno, I think I'd just conclude that my employer was the most awesome person ever. Although if I worked for Charles, I think that'd be obviously already.

neither of them is ever intimidated by the other, really.Definitely. And that's important to them both because it's unusual for them both. Everyone is intimidated by Erik, and everyone WOULD be intimidated by Charles if they comprehended his full power (which Charles of course realizes ( ... )

True! Also you'd have a lot of pineapple. And probably expensive whiskey from Scotland...

And that's important to them both because it's unusual for them both

It's a relief, and a delight, really, to have someone who's an equal. And I suspect people are intimidated by Charles even more because they don't know what he's capable of, and there're no real outward 'tells' for his power...

Erik: no, I would not like a...NO, I said, it's impossible to look intimidating with one's paws in the air...all right maybe a little...but you're not allowed to tell anyone about this!

but a deliberate restraint on himself, so he doesn't unconsciously use his powers. Oh, interesting! And kind of sad, that he'd need to install those sorts of mental checks and reins. I can totally see him doing that to himself, believing it's for everyone else's best, too. And this And they never seem to think about the fact that Charles clearly COULD just erase that fear and they'd never realize it. The fact that they bar Charles from their heads is already proof of ( ... )

Happy you're liking my AU efforts, so far! :D :D

I have to admit, I'm simultaneously amused and sympathetic about Erik in wolf-form being attracted to Charles. Because talk about frustration! *g* And I suspect that Charles is going to have rather more difficulty dealing with Erik sleeping in his bed now that he knows that wolf could potentially change back into rather an attractive man!

I did love the image of Erik filching food from the kitchens, though, and then bounding agleefully way with his ill-gotten gains...

And the fact that Erik still has his abilities, even while a wolf, is very interesting - and very useful, I suspect, when on doesn't have hands!

But I'm sort of getting this sense of imminent doom on the horizon - not necessarily because you're signposting it madly (although there have been one or two hints), but because there's no way that Charles and Erik will simply be left alone to sort all this out without some obstacle presenting itself... *pessimism*

Poor Erik. As a wolf, he can have all the cuddles, and keep Charles warm in drafty castle bedchambers...but certain other ways of keeping warm are decidedly off-limits. (Poor Charles, too. Suddenly he can't help not seeing the wolf-body, when looking at Erik...)

Gleeful wolf!Erik is an adorable image. Especially when he's stealing chicken for Charles. Being all protective, even then. :-)

I figured, if Charles (and everyone else) gets to have powers (which makes conversing with wolf!Erik possible!) then clearly Erik has his, too. (Which explains some things about why Shaw our villain was experimenting on him...oh, wait, hints ( ... )

Yes, I'm not sure we really want to go there, do we... ;)

(Which explains some things about why Shaw our villain was experimenting on him...oh, wait, hints...)

It is rather an impressive array of mutations/abilities Erik's got there! Even if I suspect he could probably live without the werewolf thing, even without factoring in his current predicament. And oh hints - you evil tantiliser, you!

He didn’t know how he’d escaped, or when.

Oddly enough, that's one of the things I've always wondered about canon - how and when did Erik escape Shaw? We go from seeing young Erik being tortured by Shaw, to adult Erik on his hunt for Shaw again, and I sort of want to know about the bit in between. Because I somehow doubt that Shaw just let Erik go... So I'll be interested you see your - albeit AU - take on it here :)

Oh, yes! That's actually been one of the hard parts of this one: obviously he just IS a werewolf, but how/when does he get stuck in the wolf form, and how does he get back...can't be as illogical as the original lai version!

Oddly enough, that's one of the things I've always wondered about canon - how and when did Erik escape Shaw? We go from seeing young Erik being tortured by Shaw, to adult Erik on his hunt for Shaw again, and I sort of want to know about the bit in between. Me, too! I didn't think about it on first watch, but the second time around, it seemed like such a surprising omission: that has to be a huge event in his life, and we never know! I assume that, once he gains a bit more control over his powers, he breaks out in some spectacular fashion. And then runs as far as he can--escape reflex--and only later regrets the escape, because now he's lost track of Shaw...or at least that's sort of how this ( ... )

Okay, LJ keeps fucking up again... I seriously need to save everything I write before I try to send it :(

But your fic gets better and better! I seriously sat the whole time there with heart eyes while reading this!

I loved all the protective!Erik and he trusts Charles because he even let's him in his head! And all the h/c when Charles is thrown out of Erik's mind!

But poor Charles for worrying that Erik might have left him - I assume something like that happened to him before? - but thank god Erik came back and assured him that he won't leave!

Waiting for the next part will definitely be hard but I can't wait for all the love and the h/c! <3

(ah, LJ...it knows we're annoyed with it! so it misbehaves MORE.)

:D :D The AU has definitely been interesting; they have to still be themselves, but quasi-medieval versions of themselves...

Erik DOES trust Charles--the only person who's ever saved him, who's given him a refuge, and who never asks him for anything in return. Hard for Erik to believe, but real; and how can Erik not love him? And Charles--who has never had anyone care about him that deeply--is of course falling in love with Erik too.

I assume something like that happened to him before?

Oh, yes, well...chapter five soon, I promise... *grin* Some small preview bits up now, however...

I think so, too. Well I've been mostly avoiding it last week thanks to all the stress :/

I like the other setting. It's interesting how they deal in this world, with other problems but they still manage it to find each other!

Charles is the nicest person in the universe! Even in medieval times! Erik just has to fall in love with him. How could he not when Charles is so caring and adorable! And Charles needs someone to take care of him and to be there for him, and even to worry about him as Erik does!

I'm waiting curiously! :D

I suspect they'll always find each other. Because, in any universe, they keep each other from feeling alone. And in fic, we can give them the happy endings they deserve!

Charles IS the nicest person in the universe, even the alternate one! But it's because he IS lonely, underneath it all. He's never really had a partner, before, someone who understands him, and who will worry about him, while Charles worries about everyone else. And Erik's never had anyone love him so unconditionally. They can heal each other, perhaps. :-)

Oh, this was lovely.
I adore well-written werewolf AUs, and this is certainly one. Also, quasi-Medieval powered werewolf AU? OMG I LOVE YOU. Seriously, this is amazing. It hits so many of "these are things in fic that make me incredibly gleeful" buttons. Like amazing characterization, witty banter, your wonderful habit of including anthropomorphic weather and buildings (in terms of them all loving Charles or James, depending on the fic), and Erik's (or Michael's) unintentionally poetic thoughts on Charles (or James).

Basically this: <3

Love your icon!

Also love the awesome encouragement, of course. I think this is actually the first time I've written proper AU for them, quasi-historical setting and all! This story just fit SO perfectly.

Aww. *blushes* It's going better than I thought it might (see above re: first-time AU fic), I think because they're very much still themselves, regardless of setting. And they're still better selves with each other. And helpful furniture.

Part five soon. It's mostly done. And then...well, I know where it's going, I just have to find the time to write it down!

Thanks for reading! and for lovely comments! *smiling at laptop*
