new ficlet in the epic universe! and some other things

Jun 14, 2013 12:44

I leave for New York tomorrow! ~all the excitement~ But FIRST. Some fic. Here's a little timestamp I wrote for the McFassy Epic Universe, by request; here is also the AO3 link to the McFassy hurt/comfort domestic happiness that significantowl and I coauthored! Which was wonderful, and surprisingly easy, because she is brilliant. Also werewolf fic later today ( Read more... )

anniversary celebrations, timestamps, marvelous coauthors, universe of porn!, fic: james/michael, hurt/comfort

Hurrah, James won an Academy Award! (And of course, Michael did too, but James' means more to him because of everything that's happened, so Michael's is away in a corner somewhere, gathering a certain amount of dust, not matter how often James tries to perch it on the shelf next to his...)

Gorgeous little ficlet, essentially! :)

And New York is very exciting, and I bet you'll have a fabulous time! I'm very jealous!

Of course! (James may never be able to do nude scenes again, or...uncomfortable scenes [like the torture in Trance] but he is healed, now, physically and emotionally, and his talent is deservedly recognized!

but James' means more to him because of everything that's happenedThe 'him' there is Michael, yes? Because of course yes, to that. And James keeps putting Michael's back out--"you deserved it equally as much! if not more! I know how hard everything was on you..."--and Michael keeps moving it back behind James's on the shelf ( ... )

Yep, the 'him' is Michael - it seems like something he'd do, in this universe, always putting James before himself (for obvious reasons!).

Timestamp fics are always interesting, particularly for very established stories or universes, because you get so caught up in the 'here and now' of the existing story/universe, that as both a writer and a reader it's challenging to move outside that comfort zone - it often requires more thought than you might think!

I completely forgot to comment on the other fic - bad me! :( It does flow well, and your writing styles do work together well, which is what you need in a co-authored fic - it would be incredibly jarring if it were two very obvious and separate authors. Although I did note one or two bits that I thought were yours... *g* (And now they'll probably turn out to not have been!)

And yes, I can handle Monday's DD - although I'll have to remember to do it before I go to work, as I'm out in the evening :)

He would indeed--and not in an unhealthy way, he's just constantly kind of looking for little ways to remind James of how amazing and wonderful he (James) is. Which sometimes involves pushing James's awards to the front, and his own to the back... (I sort of want to write one more, in which they bake something else together--that possibly also happens on their anniversary: more peanut-butter chocolate-chip cookies...)

Yes to the more-thought! I was glad that in this case the person asked for something pretty far in the future, so I had a bit more freedom (as opposed to something, like, in between stories, where it'd have to still make sense with the before and after); I'm actually a bit surprised no one asked for, like, James a year before this Epic Universe started... (Prompts still welcome of course! for anything!)

Yay, you liked our co-author attempt! It really did seem to go well, but then we were amusing ourselves, so you never know how outside readers'll feel. :-)

Although I did note one or two bits that I thought were yours ( ... )

Both absolutely fantastic, just as they had been when I first read them on Tumblr. Lovely and wonderful.

Have fun in New York! Don't forget us while you're gone! :)

Thank you, love! and thanks for the re-read! :-) I did like getting to see what they'd be up to: still happy, still kinky, still so in love. And the co-authoring was surprisingly easy--and I love how it came out! It felt like we were pretty in sync (not the band) with how we saw it unfolding, and I think our writing styles mesh fairly well. :-)

I'll have the internet--we're being hosted at NYU, so all the amenities. I may be busy, but I'll try to at least be around in the mornings or before bed! Plus I get to finish off the Epic Round Robin Fic of Awesome...

There are several of my fics where I have tidbits of info of what happened before and after the fic. I think there's several fics that each have a different "how they go together" back story, even if it doesn't come up in the fic itself. Those kinds of things are fun to think about.

I think my cousin lives near NYU, if I remember correctly (she and I don't talk often, I mostly just keep up with her life via facebook)

They're absolutely fun to think about! That's how I know something's a good story, I think: if I have a "life" for the characters outside and around the story I've told, in my head. Any good tidbits about your McFassy fic? :-)

I have a cousin-in-law who's out here. I think I may try to have lunch with him on Thursday. Wednesday is Museum Day. :-)

Okay, first off, a thousand apologies I didn't comment on this post sooner!!
AIIIEIIEIEEEEEEEEE!!!!! *babbles dolphin noises of happiness* Omg they are SO ADORABLE!!! James has won an Oscar! And he's doing so much better! And Michael is Bond! I love all of this!! Hahhahaha and of course James is a cheeky bastard with the hand, that's just perfect, and so is the last line!

For the second ficlet (NOT fillet, goddamn you autocorrect), would you prefer if I comment over at AO3?

Hi, you! *waves* How're things? Good, I hope?

James of course deserves the Oscar. He tries to say it's just the script, and the direction, and everything, and Michael shakes his head and says, will you just believe it--? and James sighs and kisses him and says yes. (He'll probably never be able to do nude scenes, or scenes like the torture one in Trance, but that's okay. That's just the way it is. And he doesn't need to.) I was actually glad the requester wanted a future-scene, because it let me tie up one (deliberately imperfect at the time) open end, with the wedding rings. James was just waiting for the opportune moment, and this was it. (Just checking: you did see the actual final story, right? with the wedding on the beach? because otherwise that probably won't make much sense...)

And, um, either, really! I did it with the link here because it was co-authored, and it felt odd putting the full text on my journal, the same way I would anything else. significantowl is marvelous and writes beautiful prose and far better ending lines than I do. :

*waves back* Things are... how they are. 'Nuff said.

I did see the final story! I just haven't commented on it yet... *slinks into corner of shame*
