Early on Thursday morning, Amy and Jamie waited for the new jogging partners. Eve and Trish had decided to go jogging on Wednesday and Friday mornings with Chris Irvine and John Cena… and really, Amy and Jamie didn’t need to go with anyone, but it helped Tyson’s nerves. Somewhat.
“Man was not meant to be awake before sunrise,” Alex complained as he half walked and half stumbled out of the apartment building.
“What he said,” Josh whined, the man yawning broadly. “Why couldn’t you two pick a more reasonable hour…. Like noon?”
Jamie rolled her eyes, “because of this thing called work? You two have jobs, don’t you?”
Alex raked his hands through his messy hair, “well, yeah… but that doesn’t mean we feel the need to go jogging at the crack of dawn.”
Amy shook her head, the two women finishing out their stretching. “Then don’t come with us.”
Alex scoffed, “please. And miss the chance to freak out your brother? I wouldn’t miss that for the world.”
With that, the four set off on their route, Jamie and Amy setting the pace while Josh and Alex trailed slightly behind.
“Did I tell you? I’m officially a supervisor for the Pre-K classrooms.”
“Really? That’s great news, Jamie. Congratulations.”
Jamie beamed, “I’ll make a little more than I do now, plus the daycare did agree to help me pay for my masters degree in Early Childhood Education.”
Amy grinned, “I’m happy for you Jamie. … and did you get the e-mail from the city about the lifeguard thing?”
Jamie made a face, “yup. I’ll miss working over there but I can’t stay on full-time.”
Amy nodded, “well, it was fun while it lasted, anyway. Plus, we’ll have the going away party.”
Alex jogged faster so he was closer to them, “doth my ears deceive me or are my two favorite Baywatch babes leaving the lifeguard stand? Say it isn’t so.”
Amy and Jamie stopped briefly, the two women punching him in unison before the blonde woman spoke. “If you must know then yes, we’re both leaving. I’m pretty sure that Trish is too. None of us can afford to stay there if we want to keep our cars, buy food…”
Amy elbowed Alex in the side, “speaking of work… the Sports Club is hiring in the physical therapy department. You and Josh should apply.”
Alex blinked, “how’d you know that Josh is a physical therapist?”
Amy and Jamie exchanged a look, the two women rolling their eyes before jogging ahead.
“So, Ames…”
“Don’t even think about it, Jamie.”
“But you don’t even know what I was going to ask!”
“Please, I know you and that scheming tone of voice. Forget it.”
