He’s no angel. In fact, he’s pretty damn far from the celestial realm. Lex Luthor has made a myriad of mistakes in twenty-five years, and he is not without regrets. He’s never claimed to be righteous or holy, only human. His humanity is his saving grace, and that’s a fundamental fact that Lex is willing to fight for, come hell or high water.
But now she’s in his arms, and her lips are on his, and he can taste her- pure, fresh, and sweet, with a hint of spice underneath. Lex can’t help but kiss her back, to pull her as close as he could.
Lana is here, in his arms, kissing him in a way he never quite thought she would.
In his life, he’s known plenty of women in the carnal sense. Insane amounts of money tends to attract women like a magnet, and the devil may care attitude he sported in his teens was an additional lure. He’s cared for a few women, and loved fewer still.
But none of them are like Lana.
He’s known Lana for five years, since she was a freshman in high school. Longer than that really, if you count the times he met Nell Potter’s young ward while his father was conducting business with the young florist. She was always a pretty girl, fragile and perfect like a china doll, pretty like a storybook princess, but she was young, way too young for someone who passed the age of minority in another millennium. Instead of pursuing her, he became friends with her, a mentor of sorts. Business partners. Lex didn’t have many friends of the female sex- girlfriends, business acquaintances, past flings, yes. But not friends.
The fact that she was his friend made Lana ever so different than the rest.
Now she’s past eighteen. She’s legal.
And the tables have turned in a way he wasn’t expecting.
He loves her. Given the chance, he’d love her forever. Love her and Marry her and cherish her for every single second that he lived. In the future, he had.
But he’s seen his future. Lana died. Lex knew that he couldn’t let that happen. And though he made a different choice than his mother advised, and changed his future, things have turned out mostly the same.
Lana is here, now, in his arms, regardless.
Damn destiny.
Maybe he has.
But Lex is a realist, a businessman before all and above anything else. Relationships are a complex creature, and there are a million things that can crash and sink even the simplest relationship. By nature, everything in Smallville is hopelessly complicated. Her ex-boyfriend is his ex-best friend. Her best friend has threatened to take him down if he breaks Lana’s heart. And Lana, bless her soul, has not had the best luck in relationships. All her boyfriends have had the annoying habit of turning up dead.
And being dead….oh that just wouldn’t do for Lex. He already had an engraved headstone on an empty grave…and he didn’t intend on filling it any time soon.
He was thinking too much, he realized, when the sensation of Lana’s tiny hands gripping his ass brought him back down to Earth.
This thing…could be a momentary thing.
Or it could be something…something infinitely more wonderful.
