The guy who played Light was Nanahara (Not Shinohara as I keep trying to type repeatedly, further proving my Gokusen addiction) in Battle Royale. But seeing as you didn't watch that, it probably doesn't mean anything to you either. I'm assuming he's been in other stuff but that's the only thing of his I've seen.
I heard that Monster House had some pretty disturbing things in it, but wow. I swear, children's movies are no longer for kids. And puffy pads sound atrocious.
Nanahara's proportions are weird. It was like watching my brother's huge head on my little sister's skinny frame. It bothered me. That, and he's not attractive. Meh.
Monster House was weird --I don't know if it was truly intended as a kid's movie because it was so all over the place on realism and such. The main character's best friend, Chowder, is a fat kid who says like it's normal,"Dad's out drinking and mom's at the movies with her pilates coach," or something like that. The pushy boyfriend and the increasingly pressured babysitter who dropped out of a prep school were also disturbing.
I think I would have liked it, genuinely *liked* it, if the writers/director had managed to figure out if they wanted a CG horror film (which has yet to be done, unless you count Nightmare before Christmas and/or Corpse Bride), drama piece, or kid's fluff. The three components were just so damned jarring.
